Although the cost of braces can vary, the average price of traditional metal braces for teeth in the U.S. ranges between $3,000 and $7,000. This price can rise if your child needs a different type of braces. A dentist or orthodontist will be able to help you and your child determine which type of braces to choose.
There are many more options for braces than just normal metal braces. Below are descriptions of the different types of braces available and their average prices.
Note: The following prices are ranges and can vary based on insurance and dental care provider.
Metal wired braces. Still the most popular type of braces, metal wired braces are made from stainless steel and feature metal brackets that shift teeth into place over time.
Average cost: $3,000-$7,000
Ceramic wired braces. Similar to metal wired braces, the brackets of ceramic braces are clear or tooth-colored, making them less noticeable than metal braces.
Average cost: $4,000-$8,000
Lingual braces. Lingual braces are placed on the back of teeth and are hard to see. However, it usually takes lingual braces more time to straighten teeth than metal or ceramic braces.
Average cost: $8,000-$10,000
Invisible braces (clear aligners). Invisible braces are made of clear plastic and do not use brackets or wires.
Average cost: $4,000-$7,400
Kool Smiles, a network of over 120 dental offices throughout the United States, offers orthodontic services at several locations.
At Kool Smiles, we believe that every child deserves quality dental care. This is why we accept most insurance plans including Medicaid, TRICARE, and CHIP, and why we offer discount programs for qualifying patients without insurance.
In some states, Medicaid only covers orthodontics if the treatment is “medically necessary” and if the child is younger than 21 years old. To determine if Medicaid will cover your child’s orthodontic needs, contact your local Medicaid office.
If your child requires braces for their teeth and you still have questions about pricing, Kool Smiles is here to help. Contact us today for more information or to schedule a no-cost consultation today.
