Ceramic braces can be a good option for teens that are worried about the look of metal braces. Ceramic braces are similar to metal braces, except they are made from a tooth-colored material that helps them blend in with the teeth for an “invisible” look.
While ceramic braces are less noticeable, they can cost more than other types of braces.
Ceramic braces range from $4,000 to $8,000 and can be more costly than traditional metal braces ($3,000–$7,000) depending on the treatment needed.
However, they move teeth faster than other types of invisible braces, such as Invisalign. On the downside, ceramic braces can stain easily if they are not well taken care of.
Ceramic braces aren’t the only option your teen has when it comes to invisible braces. Other options include:
Clear plastic aligners, such as Invisalign, work like traditional braces to shift teeth into the correct position, except they look like a clear plastic mouthguard and are used in a series instead of being glued to the teeth.
These aligners are almost invisible and can be worn while eating and drinking. However, they can be more expensive than traditional braces, ranging from $4,000 to $7,400.
Lingual braces are similar to traditional braces except they are placed on the back of the teeth instead of the front. They are invisible from the front, but are one of the most expensive alternatives to traditional braces, costing anywhere from $8,000 to $10,000.
It should also be noted that lingual braces can take longer to shift teeth, are harder to clean, and can be more uncomfortable than other types of braces.
