Cost of Dental X-rays

At Kool Smiles, dental x-rays are painless and affordable. Many dental x-rays can cost as little as $10 and as much as $250, depending on the type of x-ray performed.

Your dental insurance may cover the cost of your x-rays. Keep reading for a breakdown of different dental x-ray costs.

Dental X-rays | Cost Breakdowns

There are four x-ray types, each with their own price tag. The prices below are for general information—for specific pricing information, schedule an appointment with your dentist.

  • Bitewing X-Rays ($10–$25 each | $20–$100 per set)—Bitewing x-rays show decay between your teeth and look for gum disease. This type of x-ray has you bite down on a “wing” to take a picture of your upper and lower back teeth. This is the most common type of dental x-ray, taken during routine checkups.
  • Periapical X-Rays ($15–30 each | $85–250 full mouth series)—Like the bitewing dental x-ray, the periapical x-ray shows where decay and gum disease form, but gets in a bit closer. Often, periapical x-rays and bitewings are taken together to get a “full mouth series”—a complete picture of your overall dental health.
  • Panoramic Radiographs ($60–150)—A panoramic dental x-ray takes a complete picture of your mouth across your jawline. When getting fitted for braces, this x-ray helps dentists determine how a fitting will shape the patient’s oral cavity for years to come.
  • Occlusal X-Rays ($20–40 each)—Atypical problems can occur in children and adults alike. This type of x-ray scans the top and bottom palates of your mouth to check for jaw fractures, cleft palate, stuck objects, or extra teeth.

Additional Dental X-Ray Costs

You may be responsible for extra fees like insurance co-pays, appointment fees, or labor costs. Consult your dentist before going in to make sure you know what to expect.
