Kool Smiles General Dentistry is opening on Towne Drive in Elizabethtown to provide local families access to first-rate dental care. Kool Smiles is a nationally-known leading dental health provider for children and adults that is expanding its presence in Kentucky. By accepting Medicaid and a wide range of other insurance plans that many private practices do not, Kool Smiles is able to serve those who may not otherwise have access to dental care.

“We are excited to celebrate our arrival in Elizabethtown and the ability to provide a much needed option in dental care for Hardin County families,” said Polly Buckey Boehnlein, DDS, MS, a board certified pediatric dentist and Regional Dental Director for Kool Smiles in Indiana and Kentucky.  “We have had the pleasure of serving Kentucky families at our Louisville and Lexington offices, and are grateful for the opportunity to provide care for the Elizabethtown community.”

Kool Smiles is partnering with the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce for a grand opening on October 2nd at 3:30 PM. The event will feature a ribbon cutting, tours of the facility and light refreshments for the public.

Members of the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce will be in attendance at the ribbon cutting, and have lauded the addition to the area as excellent news for local families in need of affordable dental care options and an example of the growing Hardin County economy.

As part of their services to the community, the Kool Smiles team is promoting National Dental Hygiene Month in October, an observance designated to emphasize oral disease prevention. Lack of dental care in childhood can eventually lead to heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
According to the CDC, Kentucky has the sixth highest rate of third graders with untreated tooth decay in the entire country. At the same time, more than 430,000 Kentucky children are enrolled in Medicaid and 86,000 children are eligible for the Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program (KCHIP). Kool Smiles hopes to be a part of the statewide effort to ensure access to dental care for this population by reducing the number of children in Hardin County and the surrounding area who have dental health problems.

“Tooth decay affects children in the United States more than any other chronic infectious disease, but is also one of the most preventable conditions,” noted Dr. Polly Buckey Boehnlein. “We look forward to partnering with local schools and organizations to promote the importance of oral health education among Hardin Country families.”
