Lifelong oral hygiene habits form at an early age. Many of the most important practices happen at home – brushing, flossing, and limiting sugary treats. Kool Smile Kids Club’s partner dentists know what it takes to keep their littlest patients on-track with oral health.
Your child should see a dentist every six months or so for a routine check-up. We recommend a jawline assessment at age 8 or 9, and additional visits, as needed, if there’s an injury or something seems off.
At Kool Smiles Kids Club, we know that finding a dentist and finding the right dentist are two very different things. No two children are alike – each child has different needs when it comes to dental care. Kool Smiles’ partner dentists have plenty of experience treating all sorts of children. When you choose a Kool Smile Kids Club partner dentist, you can rest assured that your child’s oral health is in good hands.

Dental care doesn’t stop when your child leaves the dentist’s chair. Here are some things you can do to keep your child’s teeth healthy between visits:
There’s no official guidebook on parenting, and you may find yourself wondering when you should take your child for the first check-up with a dentist. Most children have at least one tooth at six months. Your child should see a dentist at least once by the time they turn one.
Once the first tooth comes in, the rest are close behind. A dentist can monitor the teeth from the beginning to ensure everything is in order. Most children will have their second visit by the age of two, and will then start a routine of six-month check-ups. There’s usually no need for X-rays until ages four to six, so a typical visit will consist of a cleaning and a physical examination to check for issues, like cavities.
Your child’s risk of developing cavities is highest when the baby teeth are falling out to make room for adult teeth – between the ages of five and eleven. It’s especially important to keep up with dentist visits during this stage.
